Are Home Buyers Still Looking for Pools During the Pandemic?

The 2019 Novel Coronavirus had brought a lot of change to how we lived our daily life. Public pools, gyms, country clubs, and other recreational places had to close down to prevent the further spread of this dreadful virus. With people stuck in their homes for their safety, an increase in the number of homeowners looking for properties with recreational facilities like pools had significantly increased. This is according to Robert Reffkin, CEO of real estate brokerage Compass, when he appeared on CNBC back in May of 2020 — the time when the coronavirus pandemic was at its peak.

According to Reffkin, searches on their website for homes with pools increased to up to threefolds, and inquiries for properties with outdoor spaces for other recreational activities had been two times more. The data shows that this trend will continue for years to come because people would be more cautious about spending time outside their homes. By installing a pool within their property, they make their homes more enjoyable for their family, thus reducing the need to go out to public pools. By doing so, they ensure their safety not just from the infamous coronavirus but from other forms of viruses and infectious diseases.

So if you’re planning for a new home improvement project, then a new pool could be a great idea to make your property more enticing for future buyers. However, with the cost of an in-ground pool ranging from $28,000 to $55 000, homeowners are more inclined to find a cheaper option. Fortunately, an above-ground pool can provide as much enjoyment for the family even if it may lack the sophistication and upscale look that an in-ground pool offers.

If you think that an above-ground pool is an excellent option for your home and your family, read on to learn more about this pool type.

Cost.

Like any other home improvement project, an above-ground pool’s overall cost varies on factors like brand, materials, size, yard prep, and enhancements. In general, it may cost around $700 up to $5000 to purchase and install an above-ground pool on your property.

While in-ground pools can last longer, a well-maintained above-ground pool can last you up to 15 years, which isn’t too bad for what it cost.

Material.

Above-ground pools are usually made of steel, aluminum, or resin. The last is preferred since it’s rust-proof and highly resistant to warping and denting. It may be more expensive than the rest, but it may also mean that it can add more value to your property.

Maintenance.

DIY above-ground pool maintenance can usually cost you around $200 each year for chemicals and other cleaning tools. However, as always, hiring a professional that knows exactly what needs to be done is always recommended. Professional pool contractors usually charge $150 per service.

Electrical work.

The cost of initial electrical work needed to get your pool up and running can be anywhere from $350 to $1,500. Moreover, you also need to consider the additional monthly utility bill, which can be around $30 to $250.

When it comes to deciding whether a pool is something you should add to your property, we recommend thinking about the value it will add to your family’s enjoyment over the property’s future worth. Whether it increased the value or not, I bet you’ll agree that your family’s happiness is so much more important than anything else.

So that’s it. Good luck and stay safe!
